Why not Wikibooks?

Just wonderin - why go to all the hassle of a full wiki instead of making Wikibooks? ··gracefool | 01:56, February 15, 2006 (PST)

What do you mean? (post by Peerless at {{{1}}} - see his talk and contribs.) 08:05, February 15, 2006 (PST)
Why not make a D&D wikibook, a D&D Online wikibook and a LOTR Online wikibook etc.? ··gracefool | 17:39, February 15, 2006 (PST)
Wikibooks is run by wikimedia. End of story. (post by Peerless at {{{1}}} - see his talk and contribs.) 18:14, February 15, 2006 (PST)

Categories

I know you'd really like the DDOwiki to reorganize the categories in use, but I also spotted the categories/tags entry in the 2.0 proposal. Should we just continue setting up categories as we have been if that proposal is something that's going to happen soon and we'll have to change them all anyways (no clue on the time frame there), or should we proceed with the category revamping as you've discussed with us? I'm more than willing to wade through all the pages and revamp them, as that's mostly something I can do without game access. I'd just need one concrete example and I can run with it from there, if the latter is the case. Dedridd 12:16, February 16, 2006 (PST)

Time frame is big big big. I have no idea when any of that will become reality. Anyway, assume at least 5 months. Have Tihocan read that article and tell him the 5-month timeframe, then have him make a decision. DDOwiki is all under his control, not mine (-: (post by Peerless at {{{1}}} - see his talk and contribs.) 12:18, February 16, 2006 (PST)
Ok, I'll refer him then. I hit you up with it because you were the one who proposed a different scheme. Regardless, I'd be forever indebted and grateful if you picked even just one existing weapon page and threw me the combined, 3D category names and linkage between them sometime on my user page or something, just so I can quit trying to picture it in my head. :D Dedridd 12:26, February 16, 2006 (PST)

Upload files

Is there a reason why the uploading special page is disable? is it going to be available in the future? Kultalth 16:14, March 8, 2006 (EST) from AutoAssaultWiki[1]

Images

Hi there! I am glad to be the first to implemenet graphics to the site! I was also wondering what other graphics would you like to see. I have ideas about adding alot of graphics to certian area. Please contact me via MSN at pepcfreak@hotmail.com . 198.232.250.21 12:57, March 8, 2006 (EST)

Sig

Peerless, I don't know what's going on, but your last post on the DDO:Category talk:Skills page caused most of the page to become hidden. Must be something with your sig template. I couldn't figure it out, so I removed the sig. Here's the text I pulled, in case it'll help you debug this: {{:User:Peerless/Sig1|15:12, March 8, 2006 (EST)}}. Be warned, as this might have the same effect on other pages. Dedridd 15:45, March 8, 2006 (EST)

Paladin builds

I'd like to do some serious editing in the alternate paladin build I started. I mean some really huge editing. Actually it's more like a merger with the "yet another build" that has been commented out. How much freedom do I have (and anyone else) to retract and brutally edit my own work? 213.141.89.68 13:28, March 9, 2006 (EST)

As you may have noticed, logins are not global - the user information is, but you have to actually log into each wiki seperatly, shaile. Anyway, I replied on the talk page for the paladin, and also left you a note on your talk page (-: For future reference, you may edit it as much as you like, as long as nobody comes along and says 'WAIT, lets think this through first' or yells at you or summat. (post by Peerless at 13:30, March 9, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)
Reply moved to your user_talk page. (post by Peerless at 14:22, March 9, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

New DDO site layout

I dunno if you're still working on the site layout, but I had a concern. I know removing the page title saves some vertical space. But I find it's a bit tough now to find out what the title is for the current page you're looking at as you have to decipher the URL, and I'm thinking this could be even moreso for non-technical, new site visitors. I used that all the time so I can be sure to have the right phrase when using the Search engine if I need to come back later, or to remind myself what I was looking at after I finish multi-tasking in some other window. I may be the only one that this bothers, though, in which case this is all moot... Dedridd 11:27, March 10, 2006 (EST)

I'm sorry, people are editing the sidebar discussion as I fill out all the sections, there will be a discussion there about this. I was thinking of putting a 'you are here' module with a logo, network name, wiki name, and page name or something like that. Wait a bit and look at the mediaiki talk: sidebar page. (post by Peerless at 11:31, March 10, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Reply from tools

i think this is how i reply to your talking to me.. i made about half of the links for Auto Assault awhile back. thats why i know about this wiki. plus there are several links to it by users who aslo contributed to it on the offical AA forums. and finaly, there are a few differnt links, that if followed, will suggest that you ment to go to here instead. --Tools

You reply on a user's User_talk page, not their user page - that's ok though, everybody who works here has made that mistake at least once. I've made it 3 times lol - anyway, welcome, however you got here! Make sure to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) so we can see who you are! (post by Peerless at 16:35, March 11, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Wiki link

Ummm, welcome to the wiki. I was not aware that the wiki was linked from anywhere, or even active - care to tell me where you found out about it? (post by Peerless at 11:24, March 10, 2006 (EST)

Sorry for the delay Peerless for the response, but I have been busy since the weekend started. I found out about AutoAssault Wiki at Wikipedia.org (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto_Assault#External_links). I thought someone post it. I also noticed that someone already posted another wiki for the game too. LOL. Kultalth 14:07, March 14, 2006 (EST)
I left him a note: http://aawiki.prixeon.com/index.php?title=User_talk:Jaster if you like, you can leave a note there too to make us sound more active so he's more likely to drop by instead of competing. (post by Peerless at 16:05, March 14, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Future of the Wiki

Just read your message on the DDOWiki home page. This is very sad news :( If you want to share more details about what went wrong, please send me an email (shish at keba dot be), especially if this has to do with me for some reason. What about the future of DDOWiki? Can we expect it to stay up? Or will it be shut down soon? If that happens, will it be possible to obtain a backup of the whole database & software so that it would be possible to ressurect it at another place? As a side note, I do not have the money to get such a website hosted. Nor do I have the technical knowledge to run it. Anyway. Today and tomorrow I'm not going to really be able to do anything on the Wiki, I have a whole conference article to write by tomorrow. I'll check this page though to see how things are evolving. Ah, just a small question: where was this page with all statistics about the number of users, page visited, etc? And, last, in case later would be too late, I'd like to thank you for your dedication to this Wiki, as it would not have been possible without you (and SilverSide, and Xevo of course). Tihocan 09:31, March 15, 2006 (EST)

DDOwiki was a success - purely by chance, well, partly chance and partly me spending inordinate amounts of time getting it launched. However, every other one I've tried to launch has been trashed somehow - RFO was never popular, the kind of person that plays that game is just not the kind of person that would constrictively contribute to a wiki. On AAwiki, I started it then had some other things come up, and when i went back after about a wiki somebody else had decided to start one, and we were out of the chance window to capture the information market. [2][3][4] see those. For TESwiki, again, there was another one started by our rival at the same time as we started ours, whereas they had a dedicated userbase coming over from guildwiki, I failed to try to solicit users from DDOwiki to come help start it, and theirs grew much quicker, smothering ours. [5], near the bottom. SCIwiki, well, people were sssooooooo sure that we couldn't beat wikipedia, just cause they already had lots of info - they were wrong, but with no contributors, the project just died. [6] see that thread. I'm tired right now, and I'll just stop there - similar things happened everywhere. I just don't have the constitution to keep this up. DDOwiki isn't going offline aaaaanytime soon, so don't worry about that. (post by Peerless at 12:04, March 15, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)
Oh, I must admit I did not check how those other Wikis were going... I didn't even know there were so many of them. I can't even imagine how you found the time to do all this. Well at least I'm glad to learn that DDOWiki will stay alive :) See you tomorrow :) Tihocan 09:06, March 16, 2006 (EST)

Subcategories

Ok, I'm confused - yes, again. :b I noticed that you've reorganized the guild category structure a bit when examining some of the new guild pages, so I went to update those that didn't have it quite right. After checking out what you did, I tried to duplicate it, only to find a bit of discrepancy. But for the life of me, I can't figure out where things deviate to cause the different subcategorization. I tried to update DDO:Stormreach Freebooters to be like DDO:Asylum, but instead it turned out looking like DDO:Order of the Wolf as far as which category the 'X guilds' is a subcategory of. Is it just that the category system can't show that a category is a subcategory of two categories, and so it picks one at random when displaying them at the bottom of the page? Dedridd 09:10, March 21, 2006 (EST)

Not sure what you mean Dedridd, but I have a question too, see DDO:Talk:Asylum. Tihocan 14:13, March 21, 2006 (EST)
Wow... weird... I have absolutely no idea what causes that! Add it to bug reports, no time to fiddle with it now, but if you put it there, I may remember to fix it. (post by Peerless at 17:43, March 21, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Spam filter

Could you remove H e l l from the spam filter? It makes it impossible to even say H e l l o ;) Tihocan 10:45, March 21, 2006 (EST)

Done. After some consideration. (post by Peerless at 17:36, March 21, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Template in template

On DDO:Talk:DDO_numbers#Templates_in_templates, you said we could use the span thingy within templates to have something like "templates in templates". I tried it here, but as you can see it did not work properly (two {{3}} in the list, where I added these spans). Did I do something wrong? Tihocan 14:17, March 21, 2006 (EST)

I'm just a bit confused what you mean. Can you put an example here? I have 12 tabs open, 7 of which are posts on the DDO forums flaming us. With all this flame defense , I barely have time to help with anything on the wiki )-:< (post by Peerless at 17:44, March 21, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Naming policy

I reverted some of your changes. According to our naming policy, the only capitalized letter is the first one. I know it's far from being the case everywhere currently, but I'm trying to enforce it when I can... Tihocan 14:17, March 22, 2006 (EST)

I try to keep the NPol intuitive, but I myself am confused now - see here. (post by Peerless at 14:18, March 22, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)
Excuse me for butting in on this conversation, but I wondered the same thing. Your question, Peerless was about spell names, but I was also wondering about guild names since I saw you rename one - are the latter considered proper nouns (and therefore all words capitalized), or not? Dedridd 14:25, March 22, 2006 (EST)
Guilds, people, places - those are practically given. My point is that it SHOULD have been simple - just try saying the name in a proper english sentence, and see whether you capitalize it or not. People (Captain Searchfoot), places (The Harbor (although I'm not sure about that - is it a proper name? Or is it just a definition? Is it capitalized in game?) ), and guilds (The Knights in Shin-ing Armor) are all obviously capitalized - at least that seemed obvious to me. I just couldn't figure out if spells were to be capitalized or not... I originally thought No, now I'm thinking Yes. Not sure... (post by Peerless at 14:30, March 22, 2006 (EST) - see his talk and contribs.)

Banning

I disagree with the call for banning, as there was no real 'blanking', merely an obvious misunderstanding of how we do things on gamewikis (imho). Banning would seem uncalled for and could be construed as motivated by more sinister agendas. --User:Bishop/Sig 12:06, 20 March 2006 (CST)

You are giving a plagiarist, an instigator, and a vandal too much benefit of the doubt. In my opinion, of course. User:Stabber/Sig 18:35, 20 March 2006 (CST)
Yes, well, I'm a rather live-and-let-live, save-the-whales, flower-childish tree-hugger some days. See also. But please don't take this to mean that I do not respect your opinion, because I do. I just feel there's room for friendly relations still. --User:Bishop/Sig 02:29, 21 March 2006 (CST)
Where was the ban submitted, again? I must have missed it... Peerless 07:25, 22 March 2006 (CST)
Assuming you mean suggested, Stabber did so by placing the ban template on your user page. --User:Bishop/Sig 08:28, 22 March 2006 (CST)
Opps yes, lol, didn't notice that. Ok, so, would removing that be a faux pas? Because as far as I can tell there was no community consensus on this, just some random guy not liking me. I'll remove it for now; if enough people think I'm a 'vandal' lol then they can say so here, and I'll gladly revert. I'm a reasonable guy ^^/ Peerless 08:30, 22 March 2006 (CST)
Yes. Very faux pas. No consensus is needed to make a suggestion (being the nature of a suggestion and all); the suggestion forms basis for a discussion (ongoing on this very page) which again forms basis for a consensus that will act as a guideline to the admin making the eventual final decision. As such, your best bet -- should you have a genuine interest in being part of the community as I was hoping -- would be to revert (as in, reinstate the ban notice), speak your own mind on the subject and wait for a consensus to form. Incidentally, Stabber is neither "random" nor a "guy". I'm still all for peace and cooperation, and believe we can resolve things amiably, but as a friendly word of advice, bashing her is not likely to win you any friends. --User:Bishop/Sig 09:11, 22 March 2006 (CST)
's up to you. I have no interest in being part of a community that bans (or even a community where one at least somewhat-promenitn member suggests a ban) on somebody for having a site that is similar, and offering nicely to merge. I am actually working with UESP now, and I believe they will be doing much better than you will - mostly because they are already quite well known in the TESlore community. Peerless 07:23, 27 March 2006 (CST)
P.S. Moving this conversation somewhere where I will notice changes. Peerless 07:23, 27 March 2006 (CST)

WoWWiki

I'm gonna start removing you from various community teams and such if you're really not going to visit WoWWiki anymore. I hope that's okay. --Fandyllic

No problem. Please register; anonymous edits freak me out - I see anonymous edits in my e-mail, and first instinct is to open three pages: Known vandals, special:block, and the affected page (-: just throw me out of leader positions, no problem with that... Peer ('teh talk' 'teh contribs') 17:55, April 14, 2006 (EDT)
P.S. after all that, I forgot to log in before posting ^^/
